Daniel Janssens is a Belgian runner who was born on 2 December 1925 in Leie, Belgium. He is best known for his achievements in long-distance running, having won the European Cross Country Championships in 1954 and 1955. He also competed in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia, where he finished in fourth place in the 10,000 metres. Janssens began his running career in the 1940s, competing in local races in Belgium. He quickly rose to prominence, winning the Belgian Cross Country Championships in 1951 and 1952. He then went on to win the European Cross Country Championships in 1954 and 1955. Janssens also competed in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia, where he finished in fourth place in the 10,000 metres. He also competed in the marathon at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy, but did not finish the race. Janssens retired from competitive running in the early 1960s and went on to become a coach and mentor to many young runners.
