Dave Appell was a prolific composer, arranger, and producer of popular music in the 1950s and 1960s. He was a member of the famed Brill Building songwriting team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, and wrote or co-wrote many hit songs, including "Yakety Yak" and "Charlie Brown". He also wrote and produced the theme song for the television show "The Munsters". Appell was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and began playing the piano at the age of five. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied music and composition. After college, he moved to New York City and began working as a session musician and arranger. In the 1950s, Appell worked with Leiber and Stoller, writing and arranging songs for artists such as The Coasters, The Drifters, and The Platters. He also wrote and produced the theme song for the television show "The Munsters". In the 1960s, Appell continued to work as a composer and arranger, writing and producing songs for artists such as The Four Seasons, The Ronettes, and The Supremes. He also wrote and produced the theme song for the television show "The Addams Family". Appell's work has been featured in numerous films, including "The Blues Brothers" and "The Big Chill". He has also been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Appell died on April 15, 2021, at the age of 98.
