David Angell was an American television producer and writer. He was best known for his work on the sitcoms Cheers and Frasier, for which he won multiple Emmy Awards. He was born in West Barrington, Rhode Island, and graduated from Providence College in 1968. Angell began his career in the 1970s, writing for the sitcoms The Bob Newhart Show and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. In 1982, he joined the writing staff of Cheers, where he worked for the next 11 years. During his time on the show, he won four Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series. In 1993, Angell joined the writing staff of Frasier, a spin-off of Cheers. He won three more Emmy Awards for his work on the show. He also wrote and produced several other television series, including Wings, The Naked Truth, and Becker. Angell died in 2001, when American Airlines Flight 11, which he was a passenger on, crashed into the World Trade Center during the September 11 attacks. He was 55 years old.
