David Cairns is a Scottish politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Inverclyde from 2001 to 2015. He was born on 1 March 1959 in Glasgow, Scotland. Cairns was educated at the University of Glasgow, where he graduated with a degree in politics and economics. He then went on to work as a research assistant for the Labour Party in Scotland. Cairns was first elected to the House of Commons in 2001, representing the constituency of Inverclyde. He held the seat until 2015, when he stood down due to ill health. Cairns was a strong advocate for Scottish independence and was a vocal supporter of the 2014 referendum. He was also a vocal critic of the Iraq War and was a member of the Stop the War Coalition. Cairns was married to his wife, Margaret, for over 30 years. They had two children together. Cairns was 61 years old at the time of his death in 2019. His net worth is unknown.
