He made his film debut in the 1971 film The Panic in Needle Park. He went on to appear in films such as The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974), The Warriors (1979), and The Cotton Club (1984). On television, Maxwell has appeared in shows such as Law & Order, NYPD Blue, and The Sopranos. He has also had recurring roles on shows such as The Equalizer, Miami Vice, and Oz. Maxwell has been married to his wife, actress and singer, Joanna Gleason, since 1985. They have one daughter, actress and singer, Jessie Mueller. As of 2021, David F.
