Dede Allen is an American film editor and producer who has worked on over 50 films, including Bonnie and Clyde (1967), Dog Day Afternoon (1975), Reds (1981), and Wonder Boys (2000). She was the first woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Film Editing, for her work on Bonnie and Clyde. Allen was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and began her career in the 1950s as an assistant editor at Warner Bros. She worked her way up to become a full editor, and in 1967, she edited Bonnie and Clyde, which was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Film Editing for Allen. She was the first woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Film Editing. Allen went on to edit a number of other films, including Dog Day Afternoon (1975), Reds (1981), and Wonder Boys (2000). She also produced the films The Cotton Club (1984) and The Addams Family (1991). In addition to her work in film, Allen has also worked in television, editing episodes of the series The Rockford Files and Hill Street Blues. She has been nominated for two Emmy Awards for her work in television. Allen has been honored with a number of awards, including the American Cinema Editors Career Achievement Award in 2003, the Motion Picture Editors Guild's Career Achievement Award in 2004, and the Women in Film Crystal Award in 2006.
