Cassinda began her career in athletics in 1998, when she competed in the African Junior Championships in Nairobi, Kenya. She won the 800 metres event, setting a new African Junior record of 2:02.90. She went on to compete in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, where she finished in sixth place in the 800 metres event. In 2002, Cassinda won the gold medal in the 800 metres event at the African Championships in Radès, Tunisia. She also won the silver medal in the 1500 metres event. In 2003, she won the gold medal in the 800 metres event at the All-Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria. In 2004, Cassinda won the gold medal in the 800 metres event at the African Championships in Brazzaville, Congo. She also won the silver medal in the 1500 metres event. In 2005, she won the gold medal in the 800 metres event at the World Championships in Helsinki, Finland. Cassinda has won numerous other medals in international competitions, including gold medals at the African Championships in 2006, 2008, and 2010. She also won the bronze medal in the 800 metres event at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Cassinda is married to fellow Angolan athlete, João N'Tchama. They have two children together.
