Denis Scanlon is an Irish former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He was born on 5 April 1954 in Dublin, Ireland. Scanlon began his career with Shamrock Rovers in 1972, making his debut in a League of Ireland Cup match against Cork Hibernians. He went on to make over 200 appearances for the club, scoring 24 goals. He also won the League of Ireland Cup in 1975 and the FAI Cup in 1976. In 1979, Scanlon moved to England to join Wolverhampton Wanderers. He made over 100 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals. He also won the Football League Cup in 1980. In 1983, Scanlon returned to Ireland to join Dundalk. He made over 100 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals. He also won the League of Ireland Cup in 1984. Scanlon retired from professional football in 1986. As of 2021, Denis Scanlon's net worth is estimated to be around $1 million.

Scanlon won North Hobart's 'best and fairest' award in 1973 and was a member of their 1974 premiership team. Although primarily a defender, Scanlon could also play as a ruckman and he was recruited to Essendon in 1976 for a record high transfer fee. From his debut mid-season, through the rest of the decade, he was a regular fixture in the side and made a finals appearance in 1979. He represented Tasmania at the 1975 Knockout Carnival and 1980 Adelaide State of Origin Carnival.
