Denny O'Neil is an American comic book writer and editor, primarily for Marvel Comics and DC Comics from the 1960s to the 1990s. He is best known for his work on Batman, Green Lantern/Green Arrow, and The Question. He is also known for his work on the Marvel character Iron Man, and for reviving the character of Doctor Strange. O'Neil was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and grew up in a Catholic family. He attended St. Louis University and graduated with a degree in English. He then moved to New York City, where he worked as a copywriter and editor for Marvel Comics. O'Neil's first major writing assignment was for Marvel's Daredevil, which he wrote from 1965 to 1966. He then moved to DC Comics, where he wrote for Batman, Green Lantern/Green Arrow, and The Question. He also wrote for the Marvel character Iron Man, and for reviving the character of Doctor Strange. O'Neil has won numerous awards for his work, including the Eisner Award for Best Writer in 1971 and 1972, and the Shazam Award for Best Writer in 1972. He was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1996. O'Neil is currently retired from writing comics, but still works as an editor for DC Comics. He lives in New York City with his wife, Barbara.
