Des Lacey was born in Dublin, Ireland on 3 August 1925. He was a professional footballer who played for clubs such as Shamrock Rovers, Dundalk, and Shelbourne. He also represented the Republic of Ireland at international level. Lacey began his career with Shamrock Rovers in 1945 and went on to make over 200 appearances for the club. He was part of the team that won the FAI Cup in 1948 and the League of Ireland title in 1953. He also won the FAI Cup with Dundalk in 1956 and the League of Ireland title with Shelbourne in 1958. Lacey made his international debut for the Republic of Ireland in 1949 and went on to make 11 appearances for his country. He was part of the team that won the British Home Championship in 1949. Lacey retired from football in 1960 and went on to work as a coach and scout for various clubs. He was inducted into the FAI Hall of Fame in 2008. As of 2021, Des Lacey's net worth is estimated to be around $1 million.
