Desi Arnaz was an American actor, musician, and television producer. He is best known for his role as Ricky Ricardo on the classic American television sitcom I Love Lucy. He was also the co-creator and producer of the show.
Born in Santiago de Cuba, Arnaz was the son of a wealthy landowner and politician. He moved to the United States in 1934 and began his career as a bandleader and singer. He soon became a popular nightclub entertainer and appeared in several films.
In 1951, Arnaz co-starred with Lucille Ball in the television series I Love Lucy. The show was an instant hit and Arnaz became a household name. He won two Emmy Awards for his performance on the show.
After I Love Lucy ended in 1957, Arnaz continued to act in films and television shows. He also produced several television series, including The Mothers-in-Law and The Ann Sothern Show.
In addition to his acting and producing career, Arnaz was also a successful businessman. He founded Desilu Productions, which produced I Love Lucy and other television shows. He also founded the Desilu Playhouse, a theater in Hollywood.
Arnaz was married to Lucille Ball from 1940 until 1960. They had two children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz, Jr.
