Desmond Skirrow was a British writer and editor who worked in the editorial department of the BBC for over 30 years. He was born in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, UK, on 13 November 1923. Skirrow was educated at Barry Grammar School and the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. He began his career in the BBC in 1950, working in the radio drama department. He was later promoted to the position of Head of Radio Drama, and then to Head of the BBC's Drama Department. Skirrow wrote several plays for radio and television, including The Last of the Mohicans (1956), The Scarlet Pimpernel (1957), and The Three Musketeers (1958). He also wrote the novel The Last of the Mohicans (1962). Skirrow was awarded the OBE in 1975 for his services to broadcasting. He retired from the BBC in 1983.
