Vassiliev began his professional career in the Russian Superleague with HC CSKA Moscow in 2000. He then moved to the KHL in 2008, playing for HC Dynamo Moscow, HC Lev Praha, HC Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk, and HC Sochi. Vassiliev has represented Russia at the World Championships in 2004, 2005, and 2006. He also represented Russia at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.
