Don Airey is a British keyboardist, composer, and songwriter. He is best known for his work with the rock band Deep Purple, which he joined in 2002. He has also worked with a variety of other artists, including Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Gary Moore, and Jethro Tull. Airey was born in Sunderland, England, and began playing the piano at the age of five. He studied classical music at the Royal College of Music in London, and later went on to study jazz and composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Airey's career began in the early 1970s, when he joined the progressive rock band Colosseum II. He went on to work with a variety of other artists, including Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Gary Moore, and Jethro Tull. In 2002, he joined Deep Purple, replacing Jon Lord as the band's keyboardist. Airey has released several solo albums, including Light in the Sky (2003), Keyed Up (2004), and All Out (2006). He has also composed music for film and television, including the BBC series The Bill. Airey is currently a member of Deep Purple, and continues to tour and record with the band. He is also a member of the supergroup WhoCares, which features Ian Gillan, Tony Iommi, and Jon Lord.
