Don Alias is an American percussionist who was born on 15 December, 1939 in New York, NY. He is best known for his work with jazz musicians such as Miles Davis, John McLaughlin, and Jaco Pastorius. He has also worked with pop and rock artists such as Paul Simon, Carly Simon, and Sting. Alias began playing drums at the age of 12 and was soon playing professionally. He attended the High School of Music and Art in New York City and then studied at the Juilliard School of Music. Alias has released several solo albums, including Don Alias (1975), Don Alias & Friends (1977), and Don Alias & Friends II (1978). He has also appeared on numerous albums by other artists, including Miles Davis' On the Corner (1972), John McLaughlin's My Goal's Beyond (1971), and Jaco Pastorius' self-titled debut album (1976). Alias has been nominated for two Grammy Awards, for his work on Paul Simon's Still Crazy After All These Years (1975) and Sting's Dream of the Blue Turtles (1985).
