Donnie Van Zant is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. He is best known as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the Southern rock band, Lynyrd Skynyrd. He is the younger brother of the late Ronnie Van Zant, the original lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Donnie Van Zant was born on June 11, 1952, in Jacksonville, Florida. He is the youngest of three sons born to Lacy and Marion Van Zant. His older brothers were Ronnie and Johnny Van Zant. Donnie began playing guitar at the age of 12 and formed his first band, The Noble Five, in 1965. He joined Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1974, replacing original lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, who had died in a plane crash in 1977. Donnie has released several solo albums, including Donnie Van Zant (1985), Right or Wrong (1987), and Van Zant (1991). He has also released several albums with his brother Johnny as the duo Van Zant.
