Doug Ingle is an American musician, best known as the lead singer and organist of the rock band Iron Butterfly. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and grew up in San Diego, California. He began playing the organ at the age of nine, and by the time he was in high school, he was playing in local bands. In 1966, Ingle formed Iron Butterfly with guitarist/vocalist Darryl DeLoach, bassist Lee Dorman, and drummer Ron Bushy. The band released their debut album, Heavy, in 1968, and it became a hit, reaching number 30 on the Billboard 200 chart. The band's most successful album, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, was released in 1968 and reached number 4 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album featured the 17-minute title track, which became a hit single and is considered one of the first heavy metal songs. Ingle left Iron Butterfly in 1971 and released a solo album, I'm Here, in 1972. He then formed a new band, Doug Ingle and Friends, and released two albums in the mid-1970s. In the 1980s, he reunited with Iron Butterfly for a series of reunion tours. In the 1990s, he released two solo albums, and in the 2000s, he reunited with Iron Butterfly for a series of reunion tours. Ingle is currently living in San Diego, California, and continues to perform with Iron Butterfly. He is estimated to have a net worth of $2 million.
