Duane Berentson is an American educator and politician who served in the Washington State House of Representatives from 1965 to 1995. He was born on November 22, 1928 in Anacortes, Washington. He attended Anacortes High School and graduated from the University of Washington in 1951 with a degree in education. Berentson served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. He then returned to Anacortes and began teaching in the Anacortes School District. He was elected to the Washington State House of Representatives in 1965 and served until 1995. During his time in the House, he served as the chair of the House Education Committee and the House Appropriations Committee. Berentson was a member of the Washington State Board of Education from 1995 to 2003. He was also a member of the Washington State Higher Education Coordinating Board from 2003 to 2007. Berentson is married to his wife, Mary, and has two children. He is a member of the Anacortes Rotary Club and the Anacortes Historical Society. He is also a member of the Anacortes United Methodist Church.
