Pictured on one of ten USA nondenominated commemorative postage stamps celebrating "20th Century Poets", issued as a pane of 20 stamps on 21 April 2012. Other stamps in this issued honored Joseph Brodsky, Gwendolyn Brooks, Sylvia Plath, Wallace Stevens, William Carlos Williams, Elizabeth Bishop, Robert Hayden, Denise Levertov, and Theodore Roethke. The price of each stamp on day of issue was 45¢.

In 1943, his daughter Nancy married the grandson of former U.S. president Theodore Roosevelt, Joseph Willard Roosevelt. In 1945, she and Roosevelt had their first child, Simon Willard (born September 17, 1945), later she would have another child with Roosevelt before divorcing. She married writer Kevin Andrews in 1954 and had 2 daughters with him, Ioanna and Alexis. They separated in 1968 but never legally got divorced.
