Edappadi K. Palaniswami is an Indian politician and the current Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He is a member of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party and was elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from Edappadi constituency in the 2011 elections. Palaniswami was born on 12 May 1954 in Samalapuram, India. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Government Arts College in Salem. He began his political career in 1996 when he was elected to the Edappadi constituency in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. Palaniswami was appointed as the Minister for Highways and Minor Ports in the Government of Tamil Nadu in 2011. He was also appointed as the Minister for Public Works in 2014. In 2017, he was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. In 2018, Palaniswami was elected as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after the death of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. He is the first Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from the AIADMK party since Jayalalithaa's death. Palaniswami is married to K. Shanthi and has two sons.
