Eddie Thompson (musician) is a British jazz pianist and composer. He is best known for his work with the Eddie Thompson Trio, which he formed in the late 1950s. He has released several albums, including "The Eddie Thompson Trio" (1958), "The Eddie Thompson Quartet" (1959), and "The Eddie Thompson Quintet" (1960). Thompson began playing piano at the age of five and was soon performing in local jazz clubs. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and later joined the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. He has performed with many of the greats of jazz, including Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, and Benny Goodman. Thompson has composed music for television and film, including the theme for the BBC series "The Avengers". He has also written music for the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal Ballet. Thompson has been awarded the Order of the British Empire for his services to music. He is currently a professor of jazz at the Royal Academy of Music.
