He is a two-time European Indoor Champion, having won the gold medal in 1985 and 1987. He also won the silver medal at the 1986 European Championships in Athletics. Annys is a two-time Belgian national champion, having won the high jump title in 1983 and 1987. He also won the bronze medal at the 1983 IAAF World Cup. He holds the Belgian record in the high jump, having jumped 2.35 m in 1985. Annys is married to former Belgian high jumper, Marleen Renders. They have two children, a son and a daughter.
