Eddy Marnay was born in Algiers, Algeria, on 18 December 1920. He was the son of a Jewish family. He began his career as a songwriter in the 1950s, writing for artists such as Charles Aznavour, Jacques Brel, and Yves Montand. He wrote the lyrics for the song "La Mer" which was recorded by Charles Trenet in 1945. Marnay wrote over 1,000 songs, many of which were hits in France and abroad. He wrote the lyrics for the musicals "La Cage aux Folles" and "Les Misérables". He also wrote the lyrics for the theme song of the French television series "Les Champs-Élysées". Marnay was awarded the Legion of Honor in 2004 for his contributions to French culture. He died on 28 April 2021 at the age of 100. Eddy Marnay's net worth is estimated to be around $10 million.
