Sitwell was a member of the Bloomsbury Group and was a friend of Virginia Woolf and T.S. Eliot. She was also a patron of the arts, and her home was a gathering place for many of the leading figures of the day. Sitwell was a controversial figure, and her work was often met with criticism. She was known for her eccentricity and her flamboyant dress. She was also a passionate advocate for the rights of women and the working class. Sitwell's most famous works include Façade (1922), a collaboration with William Walton, and The English Eccentrics (1933). She was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1959. She died in 1964.
