Edward Anthony was an American writer and editor. He was born on August 4, 1895 in New York City, New York. He attended Columbia University and graduated in 1917. Anthony began his career as a journalist, working for the New York Tribune and the New York Times. He then moved to Hollywood, where he worked as a screenwriter for MGM and Paramount Pictures. He wrote the screenplay for the classic film The Thin Man (1934). In the 1940s, Anthony became an editor at Simon & Schuster, where he worked on books by authors such as Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, and William Faulkner. He also edited the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary. Anthony was married to the actress and singer Mary Martin from 1945 until his death in 1971. He had no children.
