Egon Wolff is a Chilean playwright, novelist, and actor. He is best known for his plays, which often explore the themes of social injustice and the human condition. He has written over 30 plays, including "The Night of the Assassins" and "The House of Bernarda Alba". He has also written several novels, including "The Labyrinth of Solitude" and "The Garden of the Finzi-Continis". Wolff was born in Santiago, Chile, and studied at the University of Chile. He began his career as an actor, appearing in several films and television shows. He later turned to writing, and his first play, "The Night of the Assassins", was produced in 1962. Wolff has won numerous awards for his work, including the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 1988 and the Chilean National Prize for Theater in 1992. He has also been awarded the Order of Merit of Chile, the highest honor given by the Chilean government. Wolff is currently living in Santiago, Chile. He is married to the Chilean actress, María Elena Velasco.
