She is best known for her roles in the films The Railway Children (1970), The Raging Moon (1971), and The Elephant Man (1980). Bell was born on 20 March 1941 in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. She attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and graduated in 1964. Bell's first major role was in the 1970 film The Railway Children, in which she played the role of Bobbie Waterbury. She then went on to appear in the 1971 film The Raging Moon, and the 1980 film The Elephant Man. Bell has also appeared in numerous television series, including The Avengers, The Professionals, and Minder. She has also appeared in the BBC series Doctor Who, playing the role of Lady Cranleigh in the episode "The Curse of Fenric". Bell has been married twice, first to actor John Stride, and then to actor John McEnery. She has two children, a son and a daughter.
