She is best known for creating the Fox sitcom New Girl, which ran for seven seasons from 2011 to 2018. She attended the University of Virginia, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 2003. She then attended the Yale School of Drama, where she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in playwriting in 2006. Meriwether's first produced play was Heddatron, which premiered at the 2006 Humana Festival of New American Plays.
