Elizabeth Wallfisch is an Australian-born violinist and conductor. She is one of the world's leading Baroque violinists and has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras and ensembles. She has also conducted many of the world's leading orchestras and ensembles. Wallfisch was born in Melbourne, Australia, and began playing the violin at the age of four. She studied at the Royal College of Music in London and the Juilliard School in New York. She has performed with the Academy of Ancient Music, the English Concert, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. Wallfisch has recorded over 50 albums, including works by Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and Telemann. She has also recorded works by contemporary composers such as John Tavener, Arvo Pärt, and John Adams. Wallfisch has received numerous awards and honors, including the Order of Australia, the Order of the British Empire, and the Royal Philharmonic Society's Gold Medal. She is also a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music. Wallfisch is married to the cellist Raphael Wallfisch and they have two children. She currently lives in London. 1989

In 1989, she co-founded The Locatelli Trio (since renamed Convivium), along with Richard Tunnicliffe (cello) and Paul Nicholson (harpsichord). This ensemble records and performs less well-known works from the Baroque, including violin sonatas by Locatelli, Corelli and Tartini.

1974

In 1974, Wallfisch won the prize for most outstanding performance of Johann Sebastian Bach in the Carl Flesch Competition. She began to perform with and lead orchestras such as the London Mozart Players and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in England, establishing herself as a concert performer in the UK.

1969

Wallfisch debuted as a concert soloist at the age of 12 and took part in such competitions as the ABC Concerto Competition. She was educated at St Catherine's School, Toorak in Melbourne, leaving in 1969. She studied at the Royal Academy of Music under Frederick Grinke and was awarded, among other prizes, the President's Prize. At the age of 20 she won the Franco Gulli Senior Prize for violin, and was jointly awarded the Mozart Memorial Prize.
