Emily Post was an American author, journalist, and etiquette expert. She wrote extensively on the subject of etiquette, and her books, such as Etiquette in Society, in Business, in Politics and at Home, are still widely read today. Post was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on October 27, 1872. She was the daughter of Bruce Price, an architect, and Josephine Lee Price. She attended private schools in Baltimore and New York City, and graduated from Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Connecticut, in 1890. Post married Edwin Main Post in 1892, and the couple had two sons. After her husband's death in 1930, Post moved to New York City and began writing about etiquette. Her first book, Etiquette in Society, in Business, in Politics and at Home, was published in 1922 and was an immediate success. Post's books on etiquette were widely read and she became a popular lecturer on the subject. She also wrote a syndicated newspaper column and appeared on radio and television programs. Post died in 1960 at the age of 87. Her legacy lives on in her books, which are still widely read today.
