He was an actor, known for Wir tanzen um die Welt (1939), An de Waterkant (1918) and Der Berg ruft! (1938). He was married to Mirjam Horwitz-Ziegel.

1920

He already appeared in a movie called "An der Waterkant" (18), it followed "Colombine" (1920). But it lasted till to the middle of the 30's before he acted regularly in movies and impersonated support roles in the next years.

1918

He inaugurated the Hamburger Kammerspiele in 1918 where he concentrated on the literary modern age of Schnitzler, Wedekind, Brecht, Jahnn and others. The Kammerspiele moved to the Thalia Theater in 1932 but only two years later he left Hamburg because of his aversion to the arising Nazis in Hamburg.

1913

When he gave a guest performance with the play "Das Märchen vom Wolf" at the Müncher Kammerspiele in 1913, the then director Eugen Robert had to put up with a great flop which took him his job. Erich Ziegel was admitted to the theater management and eventually appointed as the art director. Erich Ziegel realised one first night each fortnight and had great success.

1894

German character actor, on stage from 1894. Ziegel also had a noted career as a stage director/manager and playwright. In 1911, he founded the Münchner Kammerspiele and in 1918 the Hamburger Kammerspiele. He served as director of the Deutsche Schauspielhaus from 1926 to 1928, and of the Hamburg Thalia Theater from 1932 to 1934.
