He is best known for his work on films such as The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005), The Golden Compass (2007), and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012). Norton was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and attended the Ontario College of Art and Design. He began his career in the animation industry in the early 1990s, working on projects such as The Magic School Bus and The Adventures of Tintin. In 2005, Norton worked on the visual effects for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and in 2007 he worked on The Golden Compass.
