F. Thomson Leighton is an American computer scientist and professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is the co-founder and former CEO of Akamai Technologies, a content delivery network. He is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery. Leighton was born in 1956 in the United States. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from MIT in 1978 and his Ph.D. in applied mathematics from MIT in 1984. Leighton has been a professor at MIT since 1984 and is currently the Fujitsu Professor of Computer Science and Engineering. He is also a member of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) at MIT. Leighton is the co-author of the book Introduction to Algorithms, which is widely used in computer science courses. He has also written several papers on algorithms, distributed computing, and network algorithms. Leighton is the co-founder and former CEO of Akamai Technologies, a content delivery network.
