Frances Farmer was an American actress and television host. She was born in Seattle, Washington, and began her career as a stage actress in the 1930s. She made her film debut in 1936, and went on to appear in a number of films, including Come and Get It (1936), The Toast of New York (1937), and Son of Fury (1942). She also hosted her own television show, Frances Farmer Presents, in the 1950s. Farmer was known for her outspokenness and her turbulent personal life. She was arrested several times for disorderly conduct and was committed to a mental institution in 1942. She died in 1970 at the age of 56.
