François Wahl was a French lawyer and politician who served as the President of the Constitutional Council of France from 1995 to 2002. He was born in Paris, France, on 13 May 1925. Wahl studied law at the University of Paris and was admitted to the Paris Bar in 1950. He was a professor of constitutional law at the University of Paris from 1965 to 1995. He was also a member of the French National Assembly from 1978 to 1981. In 1995, Wahl was appointed President of the Constitutional Council of France, a position he held until 2002. He was also a member of the European Court of Human Rights from 2003 to 2008. Wahl was a member of the French Academy of Moral and Political Sciences and the International Academy of Comparative Law. He was awarded the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour in 2002. Wahl died on 8 April 2014 at the age of 88.
