Fred Wendt was born in 1924 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was a professional baseball player who played for the Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Browns, and Chicago White Sox. He was a right-handed pitcher and played for 11 seasons in the major leagues. Wendt made his major league debut in 1945 with the Milwaukee Brewers. He played for the Brewers until 1948, when he was traded to the St. Louis Browns. He played for the Browns until 1951, when he was traded to the Chicago White Sox. He played for the White Sox until 1954, when he retired from baseball. Wendt had a career record of 57-68 with an ERA of 4.17. He also had 5 saves and 5 shutouts. He was an All-Star in 1948 and 1949. Wendt was inducted into the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame in 1984. He passed away in 2020 at the age of 96.

Fred Wendt (July 15, 1924 – May 18, 2020) was an American football player. He played college football for the UTEP Miners football team. He led the NCAA major colleges in rushing yardage with 1,570 rushing yards in 1948. His total of 1,570 rushing yards in 1948 broke the national collegiate rushing record of 1,281 yards set by Rudy Mobley in 1942. Wendt's rushing record stood for 20 years until broken in 1968 by O. J. Simpson. Wendt also broke the NCAA single-season scoring record with 152 points in 10 games, including 32 place-kicking points. He did not play during the 1949 season due to a leg injury and was signed by the Chicago Cardinals of the National Football League in April 1950.
