Timeline
Niedermeier joined Melbourne Victory FC after he completed his medical on 24 July 2018. During the 2018-2019 season Niedermeier picked up two concussions and tore his mid-foot ligament in duels after a good start of the campaign. He had 19 appearances in total and scored two goals. On 28 May 2019 Melbourne Victory FC announced that Niedermeier would depart the Club following the conclusion of the 2018/19 Hyundai A-League season. He left the Victory at the conclusion of the 2018–19 A-League season.
On 31 August 2016, free agent Niedermeier signed a contract with SC Freiburg.
The following season, Niedermeier continued to retain his first team status once again, having retained it in the previous season, despite suffering an injury at the start of the season. In a 2–2 draw against Werder Bremen on 23 September 2012, he played in a striker role after coming on for Shinji Okazaki and shortly after, he set up a goal for Cacau to make it 2–2, which was the final result. In the first game of the Europa League group stage, Niedermeier scored his first goal in a 2–2 draw against Steaua București. Niedermeier extended his contract with VfB Stuttgart on 9 January 2013 until June 2016.
The following season was becoming more important for Niedermeier, as he was able to make even more playing time in Stuttgarts first team, thanks to newly manager Bruno Labbadia and forming a central defense partnership with either Mathieu Delpierre or german national defender Serdar Tasci. Niedermeier scored his first goal of the season in a 7–0 thrash win over Borussia Mönchengladbach on 18 September 2010. During the season, Niedermeier made his Europa League debut in a 3–0 win over Young Boys. In the first round of Europa League in the first leg, Niedermeier once played in defensive midfield, after coming on as a substitute, in a 2–1 loss against Benfica. Eventually, Stuttgart would lose again, being eliminated from the Europa League.
On 30 January 2009, he was loaned to VfB Stuttgart until June 2010, in order to gain first team experience. After the move, Niedermeier said that he had more opportunity to play here (Stuttgart). 29 days later on 1 March 2009, Niedermeier made his debut in a Bundesliga match in a 2–0 win over Karlsruher SC. In the first half of the season at Stuttgart, he would make four more appearances due to suffering an ankle injury during the match against Borussia Dortmund.
The following season, Niedermeier scored his first goal of his career with a header, in a 1–1 draw against Borussia Dortmund on 28 August 2009. In the Stuttgart's Champion League campaign, Niedermeier made his Champions League debut on Matchday five, in a 2–0 victory over Glasgow Rangers FC, and another appearance in the last 16 second leg against defending champion FC Barcelona. During this season Niedermeier lost only 1 out of his 12 League appearances. In the second half of the season on 11 February 2010, Niedermeier signed a contract with Stuttgart until June 2014 and moved permanently to VfB Stuttgart.
In 2008, Niedermeier was given the captain's armband in the opening game of the season against FC Union Berlin, with a 2–1 victory. Also in the same year, he became involved with the first team, when he made his professional debut. He was nominated for the squad of FC Bayern Munich for Bundesliga games against Hamburger SV and Borussia Dortmund in August 2008, and later against Olympique Lyonnais in the UEFA Champions League. In January 2009, Niedermeier signed a new deal, keeping him until 2012.
Born in Munich, Niedermeier had played for FC Bayern Munich's reserve team since 2003, when he played his first match in a 0–0 draw against FC Augsburg on 18 October at the age of 17. Niedermeier previously played for SC Bogenhausen in a youth team before joining FC Bayern Munich at age 9. In the same 2003/04 Season Niedermeier won the U19s Youth Bundesliga Championship with his team while simultaneously taking the step to the seniors team.
