George Duning was an American composer, conductor, and arranger of music for film and television. He was born on February 25, 1908 in Richmond, Indiana. He studied at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and the University of Cincinnati. Duning composed the music for over 100 films, including Picnic (1955), The Eddy Duchin Story (1956), The Brothers Karamazov (1958), and The World of Suzie Wong (1960). He also composed the theme music for the television series The Virginian (1962–1971). Duning was nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Original Score for his work on the films From Here to Eternity (1953), Picnic (1955), and The Eddy Duchin Story (1956). He won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music Composition for a Series for his work on The Virginian. Duning died on February 27, 2000 in Los Angeles, California. He was 92 years old.
