George Tucker (musician) is an American jazz musician and composer. He was born on December 10, 1927 in Florida. He is best known for his work with the legendary jazz group, Thelonious Monk Quartet. Tucker began playing music at an early age, learning to play the piano and saxophone. He attended the University of Miami, where he studied music and composition. After graduating, he moved to New York City and began performing with various jazz groups. In the 1950s, Tucker joined Thelonious Monk's quartet, which included bassist Wilbur Ware and drummer Art Blakey. The group recorded several albums, including Monk's Dream and Brilliant Corners. Tucker also recorded with other jazz greats, including Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Sonny Rollins. Tucker's career as a jazz musician spanned more than five decades. He released several solo albums, including The George Tucker Quartet and The George Tucker Trio. He also composed music for television and film, including the theme song for the television show, The Jeffersons. Tucker passed away on April 15, 2015 at the age of 87. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters.
