Georges-Emmanuel Clancier was a French writer, poet, and publisher. He was born on 3 May 1914 in Limoges, Haute-Vienne, Limousin, France. He was the son of a lawyer and a teacher. He studied at the Lycée de Limoges and the Lycée de Poitiers. He then studied law at the University of Poitiers and the University of Paris. Clancier was a member of the French Resistance during World War II. After the war, he became a publisher and founded the publishing house Éditions du Seuil in 1945. He published works by authors such as Jean-Paul Sartre, Albert Camus, and Simone de Beauvoir. Clancier was also a poet and wrote several collections of poetry, including Les Mains de la Nuit (1948), Le Chant des Pierres (1951), and La Nuit des Étoiles (1954). He was awarded the Prix Goncourt for poetry in 1954. Clancier was also a novelist and wrote several novels, including La Maison des Hommes (1955), Le Chant des Pierres (1956), and La Nuit des Étoiles (1958).
