Georgette Cottin-Euziol is a French architect and urban planner. She was born in El Affroun, Algeria, on 7 May 1926. She studied architecture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and graduated in 1952. Cottin-Euziol is best known for her work in urban planning and architecture in Algeria. She was the first woman to be appointed as an urban planner in Algeria, and she was responsible for the design of several public buildings in the country. She also designed the Algerian Pavilion at the 1958 World's Fair in Brussels. In addition to her work in Algeria, Cottin-Euziol has also designed buildings in France, including the French Pavilion at the 1964 World's Fair in New York. She has also served as a professor of architecture at the University of Algiers. Cottin-Euziol has received numerous awards for her work, including the Grand Prix de l'Urbanisme in France in 1965, and the Grand Prix de l'Architecture in Algeria in 1967. 1962

Following independence in 1962, she obtained Algerian nationality in 1964. Between 1956 to 1978, she worked in the Ain and Alpes-Maritimes regions of France, as well as designing a number of buildings in Algeria (including 4 high schools, a university library, housing, sub-prefectures). She left Algeria for good in 1978, having been targeted by Algerian anti-communists, and settled with her husband, the artist Claude Euziol, in Juan-les-Pins. From 1991, she worked in Russia.

1956

She began her career as an architect in Algeria, returning there in 1956. She had to leave the country temporarily in 1961 because of her political stance and activism in favour of Algerian independence from France.

1948

Following her baccalaureate, she enrolled at the l’École spéciale d’architecture in Paris to prepare for the entrance exam to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, which she entered on 15 March 1948 and graduated on 28 November 1956. During her degree, she spent time the workshops of architects and urbanists Georges Gromort, Louis Arretche and Pierre Vivien. She won a number of architecture prizes whilst at university.
