He has designed a number of iconic buildings in South Africa, including the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, the South African Reserve Bank, and the South African Broadcasting Corporation. Gerald Abramovitz was born on 5 November 1928 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He studied architecture at the University of the Witwatersrand, graduating in 1952. After graduation, he worked for several architectural firms in Johannesburg before establishing his own practice in 1957. Gerald Abramovitz has designed a number of iconic buildings in South Africa, including the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, the South African Reserve Bank, and the South African Broadcasting Corporation. He has also designed a number of private residences, including the iconic “House of the Future” in Johannesburg. Gerald Abramovitz has been honored with numerous awards, including the Order of the Baobab (Silver) from the South African government in 2004.
