Gérard Lesne is a French countertenor, conductor, and musicologist. He is the founder and artistic director of the vocal ensemble Il Seminario Musicale. He has performed in numerous concerts and recordings, and has been awarded numerous prizes, including the Grand Prix du Disque de l'Académie Charles Cros. Lesne was born in Montmorency, Val-d'Oise, France. He studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, where he was a student of Pierre Bernac. He also studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland, where he was a student of Max van Egmond. Lesne has performed in numerous concerts and recordings, and has been awarded numerous prizes, including the Grand Prix du Disque de l'Académie Charles Cros. He has also been awarded the Prix de l'Académie des Beaux-Arts, the Prix de la Fondation de France, and the Prix de la Fondation de la Vocation. Lesne is the founder and artistic director of the vocal ensemble Il Seminario Musicale, which he founded in 1984. He has also served as the artistic director of the Ensemble Vocal Européen, and has conducted numerous orchestras, including the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, and the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève. Lesne is currently the artistic director of the Ensemble Vocal Européen, and is a professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris.
