He is also a member of the International Handball Federation Hall of Fame. Gheorghe Covaciu began his handball career in 1975, playing for the Romanian club Dinamo Bucharest. He went on to play for several other clubs in Romania, including Steaua Bucharest, CSU Oradea, and CSM Bucuresti. He also played for clubs in Spain, Germany, and France. Gheorghe Covaciu has won numerous medals in his career, including two gold medals at the Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988, and two gold medals at the World Championships in 1982 and 1986.
