Gheorghe Piţicaru is a Romanian weightlifter who was born on 30 May, 1926 in Brașov, Romania. He is best known for his Olympic gold medal in the featherweight division at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. He also won a silver medal at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne. Piţicaru began his weightlifting career in 1945 and competed in the Romanian National Championships from 1947 to 1956. He won the Romanian National Championships in 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, and 1956. Piţicaru was a member of the Romanian Olympic team in 1952 and 1956. At the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, he won the gold medal in the featherweight division. At the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, he won the silver medal in the featherweight division. Piţicaru retired from weightlifting in 1956 and became a coach. He coached the Romanian weightlifting team from 1956 to 1960. He was also a member of the Romanian Weightlifting Federation from 1960 to 1965. As of 2021, Gheorghe Piţicaru's net worth is estimated to be roughly $1 million.
