Gillian Robespierre is an American filmmaker, writer, director, producer, and actress. She is best known for writing and directing the 2014 romantic comedy Obvious Child, which starred Jenny Slate. She has also directed episodes of the television series Crashing, Search Party, and Divorce. Robespierre was born on June 29, 1978 in Brooklyn, New York. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she studied film and television production. Robespierre's first feature film, Obvious Child, premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and was released in theaters in June 2014. The film was a critical and commercial success, and was nominated for a Gotham Award for Best Screenplay. Robespierre has since directed episodes of the television series Crashing, Search Party, and Divorce. In early 2015 Robespierre announced she was developing a comedy pilot for FX with Elisabeth Holm, who co-wrote Obvious Child, starring Jenny Slate and Ari Graynor.
