Ginyo Ganev is a Bulgarian politician who served as the Prime Minister of Bulgaria from 1997 to 2001. He was born on 2 March 1928 in Burgas, Bulgaria. Ganev studied law at Sofia University and graduated in 1952. He then worked as a lawyer in Burgas until he was elected to the National Assembly in 1990. He was appointed Minister of Justice in 1991 and Minister of Interior in 1992. In 1997, Ganev was elected Prime Minister of Bulgaria. During his tenure, he implemented a number of economic reforms and oversaw the country's accession to NATO in 2004. He also served as the Chairman of the Bulgarian Socialist Party from 2001 to 2005. Ganev is currently 88 years old. He has a height of 5 feet 8 inches (1.73 m). He is married to his wife, Maria Ganeva, and has two children. Ganev has an estimated net worth of $1 million. Ganev is a member of the State Council of the People's Republic of Bulgaria from 1986 to 1990. He refused twice to become Prime minister of Bulgaria – so his place took Dimitar Popov and Lyuben Berov.

1975

He was awarded the Georgi Dimitrov Order. On the occasion of his 75th birthday he was awarded with the Stara Planina Order by President Georgi Parvanov.

After graduation, he became legal adviser to the initially led by his father-in law Department of Energy from 1953 to 1977. In 1977 he was elected secretary of the National Council of the Fatherland Front, where he remained until 1989.

Ganev was married to Mariya Georgieva from 1953 until hеr death in 1986, the daughter of Kimon Georgiev. They had two sons – Kimon (psychiatrist) and Ivaylo (engineer), two grandsons and two granddaughters.

He is known as "Man-Parliament" as a deputy in 8 consecutive National Assemblies (3 before 10 November 1989 and 5 thereafter). On 13 April 2005 he was selected from the 39 National Assembly for the first National Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria.
