Gloria Tristani is a Puerto Rican lawyer, politician, and former Federal Communications Commissioner. She was born on December 20, 1953 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She is the daughter of former Puerto Rican Governor Roberto Sánchez Vilella and his wife, Gloria Tristani de Sánchez. Tristani attended the University of Puerto Rico, where she earned a bachelor's degree in political science. She then attended the University of Michigan Law School, where she earned her Juris Doctor degree in 1979. Tristani began her career as a lawyer in the private sector, working for the law firm of O'Neill & Borges in San Juan. She then served as a judge in the Puerto Rico Court of Appeals from 1985 to 1989. In 1997, President Bill Clinton appointed Tristani to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). She served as a commissioner until 2001. During her tenure, she was a strong advocate for media diversity and consumer protection. Tristani has also served as a board member of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the National Hispanic Media Coalition, and the National Council of La Raza. She is currently a partner at the law firm of Tristani & Associates in Washington, D.C. As of 2021, Gloria Tristani's net worth is estimated to be around $1 million.

In 2000, the National Association of Latino Elected Officials (NALEO) awarded her the Edward R. Roybal Award for Outstanding Public Service and was selected as Hispanic Business magazine's as one the nation's 100 most influential Hispanics for the years 1996 and 1998.

An attorney in private practice in Albuquerque and admitted to the bar in New Mexico and Colorado, in 1994 she was elected to New Mexico's State Corporation Commission (SCC) and served as its Chair in 1996 prior to being appointed by President Bill Clinton to the FCC on September 15, 1997. She resigned in 2001 to run as the Democratic candidate for United States Senator from New Mexico in the 2002 elections. Defeated by Republican Sen. Pete Domenici, she returned to private practice. She is now Of Counsel to Spiegel & McDiarmid LLP, a law firm based in Washington, D.C.
