He is best known for his work with Little Richard, and has also performed with other notable artists such as Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, and James Brown. Grady was born on May 14, 1934 in Waskom, Texas. He began playing the saxophone at the age of 12, and by the time he was 15 he was playing professionally. He joined Little Richard's band in 1956, and toured with him for the next five years. Grady has released several solo albums, including "Grady Gaines and the Texas Upsetters" (1962), "Grady Gaines and the Texas Upsetters Live" (1966), and "Grady Gaines and the Texas Upsetters: Live at the Apollo" (1968). He has also appeared on numerous recordings by other artists, including Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, and James Brown.
