He was a member of the South Melbourne team that won the 1945 VFL premiership. Lourey was a versatile player who could play in a variety of positions, including centre half-back, centre half-forward, and full-forward. He was known for his strong marking and accurate kicking. Lourey played a total of 101 games for South Melbourne between 1945 and 1952, kicking a total of 131 goals. He was a member of South Melbourne's 1948 premiership team and was awarded the club's Best and Fairest award in 1951. Lourey retired from football in 1952 and went on to become a successful businessman. He was inducted into the South Melbourne Hall of Fame in 2003. Lourey is now 96 years old. He is married and has two children. He is still active in the business world and is a keen supporter of the South Melbourne Football Club.
